It has all the information you need.
But is frequently less clear than you'd like, and it is arranged so that you have to do a LOT of scrolling.

For instance, if you want to know where to find a pokemon, or when it gets what moves, you have to scroll almost to the bottom of a very long page.

It's still the best site available, but since it is comprehensive, it overloads you.

Comedy , Lists
What happens when you provide high quality content combined with a click-based monetization?

Click-bait mecca.

There is no doubt that the site is funny and occasionally thought provoking.

But the articles are intentionally split up so that you have to read the first third, click to the middle third, and then to the final third (or in some cases, 30 or more clicks to consume all the content in a single list).

Not only that, but the pages are COVERED in ads.

The UI is annoying to the point of making you wonder: "is this good content really worth it?"

I use a chrome extension to cobble together the articles into a single page, but even then it is wearying to see so many ads.

Content-wise, the best articles are typically well sourced, interesting and funny. However, it does have more than the occasional accuracy problems. When anyone can make and submit an article for money, accuracy and calmness will not rise to the top consistently.

It is the sort of site that makes you think "If I visit this site more often, it just encourages the fuckers".

Steam offers an outstanding product.
purchase and installation and uninstall is easy, and there are tons of great games to pickup.

but the part that is most amazing to me is the long term nature of the site. for instance:
1) game licenses are connected to your account, not your computer. so you can buy a new computer and lose nothing
2) it was very easy to change personal info like email addresses (I've had my account for so long that it outlasted one of my emails)
3) games from my childhood are present with no need for an emulator

The value available on the site is very high. A must for any video gamer.

Video Streaming , Entertainment
If you want to hear youtube videos repeated, this site has a number of slick options:

1) no sign up required (remembers your favorite videos to repeat with cookies instead)
2) will help you search for and find other popular repeated music
3) the ability to change a youtube url to a listen on repeat url in a few keystrokes is wonderful
4) you can cut annoying sections off the beginning and end of a video

I found a 10 minute video with some interesting polyphony, but that interesting part was only 2 minutes. no problem! just pull the sliders to encompass that section, and you don't have to listen to anything else!

A very enjoyable and intuitive experience

Loans , Activism
A powerhouse in the world of philanthropic micro finance.

I've been a user since January 2009 and am continually impressed with this model. The ability to help multiple people get fair loans with money put into the system is groundbreaking. For instance, I've put $1200 into the site, but I've used that money to make $3200 in loans to entrepreneurs in 78 different countries.

Kiva has an excellent track record and works hard to avoid partners that would make predatory loans. The default rate is currently just 1.27% for the whole site.

Loans are made in blocks of jsut $25 so it is easy to get on board and start helping people.

Note that you cannot make money from the site, because it turned out to be onerous to figure out every single county and regions laws. This is just to help other people, but you can withdraw your money easily after it has been repaid. The losses I've personally have have been above the site average, but still acceptably low for the results.

Kiva is open and honest with its practices and has excellent customer service. My emails to their staff have been answered promptly and professionally.

Additionally, the site is a hoot for numbers nerds and collectors. You are given many colorful charts to track your donations and recipients, and you can choose to make loans based on criteria to fill out checklists to collect all the industries or countries.

I'm a HUGE fan!

News , Audio Streaming
If you are a fan of you local NPR radio station, this is a fantastic companion resource. It allows you to easily search for and listen to old or recent audio news stories.

Additionally, if your local NPR station is of poor quality, you can skip the middleman and come directly to the source.

Pages usually give you the option to listen to a story OR read it. You can thus search for many of the stories by googling word strings that you hear on the radio.

The site is great for finding your closest mediocre wings restaurant.

It will also allow you to almost order wings online from that closest restaurant and then it will tell you that that restaurant doesn't accept online orders.

Which is good because if you could buy wings online here, then you would have to eat Buffalo Wild Wings.

Music , Education
My go to site for finding how to play music on my guitar.
In addition to providing chords AND tabulature for even relatively obscure songs, it offers premium content to help you learn to play better.

All of the public tabs and chords are created by and voted on and commented on by users.

And to make things better, the chords can be hovered over to see how to make the chord.

To make things MAGICAL, you can transpose the songs up and down with the click of a button!

This site just makes me so happy!

A great source to watch professional and amateur gamers do their thing.

If you want to see official broadcasts of tournaments, they are probably on twitch.

But if you want to chat with the gamers while they play, you'll also be able to find those that interact with the audiences.

The site gives the broadcasters many tools to entertain and communication, and you'll find people making use of them.

the site is versatile and great to use. have a dual screen setup? You can full screen the broadcast and pull the chat onto the other screen. trying to make the most of your own tiny screen? well theater mode makes very efficient use of your limited resources.

it is easy to spend too many hours on this site. it is a great benefit to the gaming community.

Channel Fireball

There is probably no better quantity, quality and concentration of "Magic the Gathering" strategy articles anywhere online.

The official wizards site gives you the inside scoop, but Channel Fireball has recurring columns from some of the strongest players in the game. The regular roster includes hall of fame players as well.

If you want to know what is happening to the meta RIGHT NOW, this is a fantastic source. I love seeing an article about some hot new tech, and then a weekend later seeing that deck have great success at an event. The players are shockingly open about what they will play at why at upcoming events, which you'd think they would like to be a secret!

every article can be commented on with your facebook info, so you don't need to create an account. additionally, the writers are pretty good about responding to comments and questions.

Plus, it has a stealth reference in its name.
Long time players will recognize one of the first combos of magic: black lotus, mountain, channel, fireball. This could win you the game on the first turn.

This history podcast is the work of Mike Duncan, who wrote and narrated the epic 'History of Rome' podcast.

Such a fantastic podcast!
Duncan has a knack for narrative history, taking all the disparate stories and facts and weaving it all together into a story that's fun and engaging.
It's also very well researched.
Would highly recommend to anyone with an interest in history.

I think the site looks dull now. I hope it evolves into more modern design. And also consider user experience.

I heartily agree with the reviews on this podcast series left so far by other listeners. I've not yet listened to Mike Duncan's History of Rome podcast (though I'm now inspired to do so), but the History of Byzantium podcast is a tour de force from Robin. He has done a sterling and balanced job...

I have found the History of English podcast absolutely riveting; in fact, I 'binged- listened' my way through the first 100 or so episodes, and am very relieved that there are clearly many more to come :-). History via etymology - a great concept, well-delivered by Kevin. Highly recommended.
