Search Engines , Reference

Baidu offers many services, including a Chinese language-search engine for websites, audio files, and images. Baidu offers 57 search and community services including Baidu Baike (an online collaboratively built encyclopedia) and a searchable, keyword-based discussion forum. Baidu was established in 2000 by Robin Li and Eric Xu. Both of the co-founders are Chinese nationals who studied and worked overseas before returning to China. In May 2014, Baidu ranked 5th overall in the Alexa Internet rankings. During Q4 of 2010, it is estimated that there were 4.02 billion search queries in China of which Baidu had a market share of 56.6%. China's Internet-search revenue share in second quarter 2011 by Baidu is 76% In December 2007, Baidu became the first Chinese company to be included in the NASDAQ-100 index.

Baidu provides an index of over 740 million web pages, 80 million images, and 10 million multimedia files. Baidu offers multimedia content including MP3 music, and movies, and is the first in China to offer Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and personal digital assistant (PDA)-based mobile search.

It is similar to Wikipedia as an encyclopedia; however, unlike Wikipedia only registered users can edit the articles. While access to Wikipedia has been intermittently blocked or certain articles filtered in China since June 2004, there is some controversy about the degree to which Baidu cooperates with Chinese government censorship.

Strange decision to use Comic Sans as the font for the titles of the website headings.

I could not find a way to navigate away from the homepage to any deeper links with more information. One would expect that the left skyscraper section would be hotlinked to more examples.

RealClearPolitics

One of the very few politics sites on the internet that is truly unbiased and is not pushing neither a right or a left-wing agenda.

It is a fantastic compendium, compiled twice daily - once in the morning and once in the afternoon - of all the news that is worth reading - in a read...

BuzzFeed

BuzzFeed

by tvanstee

Born as a clickbait, arbitrage website completely devoid of any substance or content - it somehow took that concept and made it worse.

Buzzfeed is known as the laughingstock of the internet, for its truly vile cesspool of social justice warriors, for its overly dramatic authoritari...

The Huffington Post

The Huffington Post

by tvanstee

A heavily biased so-called "news" resource - HuffPo is hypocritical in nearly every possible aspect. It preaches equality and diversity, and yet it's boardroom is nearly completely composed of white women. It claims to be strongly for diversity, and yet it practices no diversity of thought whatso...

Cracked

Cracked

by tvanstee

Once one of my favorite sites to navigate, learn useless trivia, and waste hours on - Cracked has gradually descended into clickbait, heavy politicized liberal slam pieces, and generally has grown more and more akin to Buzzfeed in recent years.

The interesting thing is that althoug...
